The following instructions explain how to publish Alexicom
pages on a Mac so that they can be used offline. Before you
start, you will need to make sure that you have an unzipping
program like
Stuffit Expander.
Step
1
Open your
Safari Browser
Step
2
Select
Preferences under the Safari tab
Step
3
Make sure
the Open "safe" files after downloading check box is
unchecked!
Step
4
Log in to your Alexicom
account
Step
5
Select your
client
Step
6
Select
Publish Pages from the Authoring Tools fly-out
menu
Step
7
Select the
pages you wish to publish and click on the Publish
button
Step
8
Once the pages have been constructed,
a "Click here to download" link will appear. Click on this link.
Step
9
The
Downloads window should appear, confirming that the download
did occur
Step
10
Now close
out your Safari browser, open your Downloads folder,
and find the downloaded AlexicomTech zip file (AlexicomTech-1.zip in our case, because there was already a file named AlexicomTech.zip in the folder). Drag this file to the
desktop.
Step
11
The AlexicomTech zip file should now be on your
desktop. The icon should be that of a zipped file, not a folder.
Step
11
Now open a
zip extraction program like Stuffit Expander (free version will do) and Expand the
AlexicomTech zip file. A folder will appear on your desktop.
Step
12
Open the extracted folder and click on the file called
Alexicom.html to open it with the Safari
browser.
Step
13
When the Safari
Browser opens, select the page that you wish to load from the dropdown list and press
Load Page.
Step
14
The selected page will open and
you are ready to go! You are now using published page content stored on your own computer's
hard drive. You no longer need to be connected to the internet.
If you go online and edit pages or make new pages, you will need to repeat this process (beginning at step 4).
Publish all pages that you want to have actively linked together.
