Karen has a broad background in science, computers, and technology. She began programming in 1981 and wrote her first communication-related code for a Bulletin Board System, the predecessor of the World Wide Web, in 1985. Karen double-majored in Physics and Mathematics and graduated with her Bachelor's degree with Honors in 1991. In 1995, Karen received her Ph.D. in Physics from Oklahoma State University and immediately began working for Microchip Technology in Phoenix, Arizona. Karen spent 9-1/2 years with Microchip, during which time she worked in Technology Development, wrote functional code in several programming languages, and developed a passion for Programmable Integrated Circuits, or PICs. Karen met Fredi Lajvardi in 2004 when she joined FIRST Robotics Team 842 as a mentor. Karen started her own software and electronics development company in 2005 and has since developed processes, software, firmware, and products for numerous clients including Applied Photonics, Microchip Technology, and Techlight. Karen began working on the technology behind Alexicom Tech in 2007 under the guidance of Fredi, Marti, and Staci.
